CANWEST CANSPELL 2007

The event was held in the beautiful Theatre at the Museum of Civilization in the Hull section on Gatineau.


Pictured above and below and one of the finalists trying to spell the word the judges have given her is Ottawa's own Katherine Silins. She is 13 years old and is in grade 8 at Vincent Massey Public School.



Pictured above and the next 2 below is Ottawa's own Prashanth Srinivasan. He is 13 years old and is in grade 8 at Hawthorne Public School.





And the winner is.......
On April 12-14, Canwest Global held the finals for it's annual Spelling Bee at the Museum of Civilization. They bring in Children from all over Canada to compete. What a great event it was and what a great time for the kid's to be in the Nation's Capital.

INTRODUCING TAMARA KATER

The Ottawa Folk Festival is please to welcome Tamara as the new Executive Director. Ms. Kater comes to the Festival with many years of experience in finacial management, staff management and has great team building skills. With her passion for Folk Music she is a perfect candidate for this role as the Folk Festival heads into it's 14th season says Board President Pam Marjerrison. OPERA UNDER THE STARS at Lebreton Flats Park JUNE 29 & 30, 2007

This post is different in that I am doing it before the event. The NCC as part of 1857 - A Capital Choice Celebrations is putting on this fantastic show at the new Lebreton Flats Festival Plaza. This grand event will feature conductor Richard Bradshaw leading two free evenings of opera highlights, with internationally acclaimed Canadian Artists, the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra and the Opera Lyra Ottawa Chorus. This is one of the key events commemerating the 150th Anniversary of Queen Victoria's choice of Ottawa as the Capital of Canada. These concerts also provide an excellent lead-up to the Canada Day Celebrations for our 140th birthday. Prelude starts at 8 PM and the shows get underway at 8:30 PM. EASTER AT THE FARM











On Easter weekend the Experimental Farm opened up it's doors for families to come out and experience a little bit of farm life in the heart of Canada's Capital.
With lot's of newborns and old equipment to explore, it makes for a funfilled day with a little learning as well.

EASTER WITH ARCHBISHOP MARCEL GERVAIS






On Sunday, April 8, 2007, Archbishop Marcel Gervais presided over his last Easter services at the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica. Mr. Gervais is retiring in June after having his resignation was accepted by Pope Benedict XVI on May 14. Mr. Gervais will be replaced by Archbishop Terrance Prendergast who comes from Halifax and will be officially installed as leader of the Ottawa Archdiocese June 26.
